500th Post!

Yesterday I hit a huge milestone for me – I posted my 500th blog post. This is technically 501 but I wanted to have a little celebration at hitting such an achievement.

I wouldn’t have gotten to such a milestone without all of my lovely supporters who read and comment on my posts so thank you everyone for all the wonderful support and friendship you give me everyday.

Happy blogging and reading my fellow Book Dragons!

This and That Thursday

Hello

I hope everyone is well and having a good reading week.

This is what I have been up to this week other than reading.

Baking

This week is my mom’s birthday so I put my baking skills to the test and baked a chocolate brownie cake with chocolate fudge icing. My icing skills need work as you can see. I have very shaky hands sadly due to medication so icing was a bit tricky for me. My mom thankfully still enjoyed the cake.

Paint by Numbers

My friend gave myself and another friend a paint by numbers each and whilst my two friends are really getting into their paint by numbers I have been struggling, the shaky hands and the bad eyesight are probably something to do with this. Oh well I persevere and hopefully it will look good by the end.

Studying

This week’s studies have been rather interesting as I have been learning all about Ancient Greek and Roman medicine and hygiene practices. I must admit it has been a bit disgusting at times.

The usual things continue i.e teaching, duet recording, walking and TV series watching. I have been really enjoying reading everyone’s blogs this week and have added quite a few books onto my TBR list from reading people’s reviews.

So that is my week, I hope everyone else has also had a good week.

Happy Reading my fellow Book Dragons!

2020 Goodreads Reading Challenge

Hello everyone, and an especially big Hello to all my new followers! Welcome and thank you for joining me.

So it is usually around this time of year that I review how my reading challenge is going and to be honest it is usually going better than this. My aim this year was to read 70 books and usually this would be quite easy for me but it would appear not so this year as I am now 8 books behind! I only usually do the Goodreads yearly challenge as I don’t usually do very well with other challenges. I tried a summer one last year and failed massively so I just avoid other challenges even if I do love the idea of them.

Now just after Christmas I had a reading slump which obviously did not set me up well for the year and ever since I have been playing catch up and to be honest falling behind. Studying has also impacted as I have been doing lots of reading but not of entire books and I have also been reading a lot of journals and articles.

So what shall I do?

Firstly, I could read lots of small books and make up the total quite quickly, being as I have quite a few of the Penguin Little Black Books series left to read then this is a tempting proposition.

Secondly, I could admit defeat and lower my target, but I hate admitting defeat! This is also a downfall with me because I will read a book I’m not enjoying to the end because I won’t be beaten, but invariably I regret this at the end of the book and realise that the book has actually beaten me.

So which shall I choose?

Well at the moment I’m going to stick to my target and try to read some smaller books as I have been reading quite a few massive books recently. I will review my target again in September as I really hope to get more reading done over the summer.

Fingers crossed I get there.

Please drop me a comment with any advice you may have to hit my reading goal! How are you doing with your reading goals and challenges?

Happy Reading!

This and That Thursday

Hello Everyone!

I hope everyone is well and having a good week so far. This is what I have been up to other than reading this week…

Ukulele

I have been practising my Ukulele quite a bit in the hope I can take my Grade 1 exam when exams are allowed. This is something I am really enjoying and it is wonderful learning a new skill.

Blogging

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying blogging and reading everyone’s blogs. I love to see what everyone is up to and what books people are reading.

Exercising

I’m keeping up with my exercise and really enjoying it. I’ve nearly finished season 2 of Criminal Minds whilst using my Elliptical machine. I really enjoy exercising but it has been a struggle in this heat.

Music

I’ve upgraded my teaching and recording set up so I no longer use my laptop speaker and inbuilt mic. This has already created a massive quality improvement in teaching and recording so I am hoping to have some more pieces up on Sound Cloud soon.

Baking

I made a new recipe called Whittingham Buttons, they have proved very yummy and I will be making them again as they were really easy to make.

Studying

This week’s studies have been fascinating  as I have been learning all about how the ancient Greeks and Romans dealt with child birth and child bearing, it has been rather gruesome at times. Now I have begun learning about the ancient sewage works.

So that about sums up my week so far. I hope everyone else is also having a good week, please drop me comment with what you have also been up to.

Happy Reading!

This and That Thursday

Hello!

Firstly, a big hello and welcome to my new followers! Thank you for following and I hope you will enjoy reading my blog.

So here is what I have been up to this week…

Exercise

I have been really getting into my exercising over the last few weeks and so I also treated myself to some new leggings. I love bright fun leggings so I went for a Sesame street theme this time, sadly the socks don’t match but they are Pokemon so I think they are ok.

Walking

We are still going on our daily walks and this week we found some lovely stones on our travels.

Baking

I made a Carrot Cake! My first ever Carrot Cake and it was wonderful, probably my best cake since baking in the AGA. Now planning my next baking adventure, suggestions most welcome.

Jigsaws

img_6081.jpg

I finished the Sherlock Holmes jigsaw which was interesting because I had no picture to follow and had to work it all out. I have two jigsaws left to do: a 3000 piece Star Trek jigsaw and a 1000 piece dog jigsaw. The only problem with the 3000 one is that it will take up the whole dinning room table.

TV series and movies

91rEV3lqtNL._AC_UY436_QL65_ML3_

I have now started the second series of Criminal Minds and have discovered that I haven’t actually seen some of the second series so that is proving to be a nice surprise. We are also still enjoying movie nights, we have watched Absolutely Fabulous, The Fantastic Mr Fox, Chalet Girl and The Colony.

Studying continues and ukulele practice.

That is my week so far. I hope everyone else is having a good week.

This and That Thursday

Hello!

This has been another good week of reading and other activities. So here is what I have been up to…

Walk and Pokemon Go playing

We have been going on our daily walks and saying hello to the sheep and I have been playing Pokemon Go.

Jigsaws

I finally finished the one jigsaw and I have started another jigsaw but this one is a mystery as it is a Sherlock Holmes jigsaw so you don’t see the picture and all the items in the jigsaw are attached to the mystery.

Ukulele

The Ukulele is going well and I have started working on Grade One. Hopefully exams will recommence at some point this year.

Baking

I had a go at a chocolate torte this week which is a new recipe for me, sadly it caught on the one side but I am slowly getting used to baking in the AGA. Going to try another new recipe next week.

Movie Night

We have done our best to recreate the cinema experience and have watched two films with popcorn and chocolates. Emma was a really good adaptation and we did enjoy a good laugh.

I’ve also done loads of reading!

So that is my week. I hope everyone has had a good week.

This and That Thursday

Hello!

It is time for my second This and That Thursday! I haven’t started another jigsaw this week although I do have one planned to start. This week I have done a lot more reading.

So here is what I have been up to…

Cross stitch

I had a massive Cross stitch for Christmas off my husband and I have been tackling it bit by bit. It is the largest Cross stitch I have ever attempted and I really want to complete it but it will take a very long time. Should keep me busy through lockdown.

Criminal Minds and Elliptical Machine

I discovered Criminal Minds on Amazon Prime, I love this show but over recent years haven’t really watched it. So I have started watching it right from the very beginning and when I watch an episode I exercise on my Elliptical machine as well so at least I’m not just sat down constantly.

Blogging

This week I have really enjoyed blogging and reading people’s blogs. It has really been fun seeing what people have been up and what they have been reading, I now have a very long wish list of books I want to buy.

Birdwatching

We have a group of bird feeders outside our window and I have been enjoying drinking tea and watching the birds. I got very excited when I saw our first Greenfinch in the garden.

I have also done some teaching this week over Skype and Zoom which felt very strange to begin with but it was lovely to see my students again and see the progress they are making.

So that is my little update for the week. Drop me a comment with what you have been up to this week.

This and That Thursday

Hello!

With everything going on I am doing lots of things as well as reading to fill my time, so I thought every Thursday I would do a post about my other hobbies other than reading. So here we go…

Jigsaws

I finally completed my Christmas jigsaw that I started in 2017 and started a second jigsaw which was of course cat related. I have at least another two jigsaws to keep me going. All my jigsaws are 1000 pieces so they should keep me busy.

Baking

I have also baked some little cakes with lemon butter icing. I was following a new recipe by Mary Berry and I must admit there seemed to be a lot of icing but they are very yummy. I’m planning Easter nests next as I gave up chocolate for lent so this will be a nice reward.

Exercise

I’ve been trying to keep my fitness up so have been walking everyday and also playing on my Ring Fit Nintendo switch game as well as doing online exercise.

Studying and Music

I have also been studying but it has been disappointing that my final assignment for this year has been cancelled. I have also been practising the organ everyday with the hope of taking another exam either in the summer or winter.

So, that is just a few of the things I have been up to as well as house chores and gardening. What has everybody else been up to over lockdown?

Stay safe.

WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words.

The rules are answer the questions below and a share a link to your blog in the comments section of Sam’s blog.

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you will read next?

Hello!

This is later in the day than expected but today hasn’t gone exactly to plan, I haven’t felt very well, I’ve been working all hours to get my essays finished and the final straw was a brand new oil radiator blew up in my husbands office. Thankfully my husband was not harmed.

What I am currently reading

I started Picard yesterday and simply cannot put it down! Half A World Away is my Book Club book and it arrived today so will be starting it tonight.

What I recently finished

9781982123840

I finished this a few days ago and it was a hoot! Highly recommend it.

What I will read next

9780008366759

This has been sat on my TBR pile for way too long and as we are stuck in lock down I thought a nice thick book would be perfect.

Please drop me a comment with your WWW Wednesday and I will head over for a visit.

Happy Reading and stay safe.
