Mid Week Quote: Sophocles

Greetings fellow readers.

Apologies I have been a bit quiet over the last few days, I have had friends visiting, so I have been having way too much fun visiting places, eating out, chatting and most importantly talking about books! I know I should have done some scheduled posts but I have fallen rather behind on that front. Hopefully I will catch up soon.

My chosen quote for today is by Ancient Greek tragedian Sophocles. Sophocles (c. 497/6-405/5 BC) wrote over 120 plays during his lifetime but sadly only 7 of these have survived. The quote below is from one of his plays that only fragments remain.

“Do nothing secretly; for Time sees and hears all things, and discloses all.”

Sophocles

Happy reading.

Mid Week Quote: Bill Watterson

Today’s quote is based on my love of tea and reading, because what is better than drinking a mug of tea whilst reading a good book?

The quote is by Bill Watterson and if you are regular reader of my blog you will realise I have used one of Watterson’s quote before.

Bill Watterson born July 5, 1958 is an American former cartoonist, he is best known for the comic stripĀ Calvin and Hobbes.

“Rainy days should be spent at home with a cup of tea and a good book.”

Bill Watterson

Happy Wednesday everyone and happy reading.

Mid Week Quote: Frederick Delius

Hello Everyone!

I can’t quite believe it is the last day of July, it really has flown by.

I have chosen a musical based quote for this week, which I think is perfect. The quote is by English composer Frederick Delius.

“It is only that which cannot be expressed otherwise that is worth expressing in music.”

Frederick Delius

Happy Reading!

Mid Week Quote: Lee- Hamilton

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

I hope everyone is enjoying the hot weather.

This weeks quote is by Eugene Lee-Hamilton fromĀ Sonnets of the Wingless Hours.

“Things bygone are the only things that last: The Present is mere grass, quick-mown away; The Past is stone, and stands for ever fast.”

Eugene Lee-Hamilton.

Happy reading.

Mid Week Quote: Neil Armstrong

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

This Saturday is the 50th Anniversary of the moon landing, so I thought a suitable quote was required for this week. You can probably work out what the quote is.

This quote is by the first human to walk on the moon, Neil Armstrong. Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon 50 years ago on the 20th July 1969. However, I do think we should mention poor Michael Collins who had to stay in the command module and so did not get the opportunity to walk on the moon. I always feel sorry for the poor guys who had to stay in the command module. I would love to know how they choose the people to stay in the command module, do you think they draw straws?

“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Neil Armstrong (1969)

Happy Wednesday.

Mid Week Quote: Nigel Kennedy

Todays quote is a musical one because this week I have lots of students taking music exams and I hope they treat the performance element of their exams as a concert.

The quote is by Nigel Kennedy. Kennedy is an English violinist and violist who specialises in classical music but has recently been playing Jazz.

“I hate complacency. I play every gig as if it could be my last, then I enjoy it more than ever.”

Nigel Kennedy (b. 1956)

Have a musical Wednesday.

Mid Week Quote: Song of Solomon

Hello everyone!

This month I celebrate my second wedding anniversary with my wonderful husband, so I have chosen a quote from the Song of Solomon because we had a reading from the Song of Solomon for our wedding.

The Song of Solomon is unique in the Bible as it does not talk about God, the law of God or the covenant of God instead it talks about the love between two people.

“Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it.”

Song of Solomon

Happy Wednesday
