I hope everyone is having a good week so far. I have managed a few bits of reading today but not as much as I would like. I really just want some big reading sessions.

My chosen poem for this week really made me chuckle so I thought I would share it.
Where Art Thou, Mother Christmas?
(Written for Great Ormond Street Hospital)
Where art thou, Mother Christmas?
I only wish I knew
Why Father should get all the praise
And no one mentions you.
I'll bet you buy the presents
And wrap them large and small
While all the time that rotten swine
Pretends he's done it all.
So Hail To Mother Christmas
Who shoulders all the work!
And down with Father Christmas
That unmitigated jerk!

It will soon be Halloween so I have chosen a poem from Roald Dahl’s book The Witches.
Down Vith Children! Down vith children! Do them in! Boil their bones and fry their skin! Bish them, sqvish them, bash them, mash them! Brrreak them, shake them, slash them, smash them! Offer chocs vith magic powder! Say, 'Eat up!' then say it louder. Crrram them full of sticky eats, Send them home still guzzling sveets. And in the morning little fools Go marching off to separate schools. A girl feels sick and goes all pale. She yells, 'Hey look! I've grrrown a tail!' A boy who's standing next to her Screams, 'Help! I think I'm grrrowing fur!' Another shouts, 'Vee look like frrreaks! There's viskers growing on our cheeks!' A boy who vos extremely tall Cries out, 'Vot's wrong? I'm grrrowing small!' Four tiny legs begin to sprrrout From everybody rrround about, And all at vunce, all in a trrrice, There are no children! Only MICE! In every school is mice galore All rrruning rrround the school-rrrom floor! And all the poor demented teachers Is yelling, 'Hey, who are these crrreatures?' Review
This is another book off my summer reading challenge and a childhood favourite. I must admit it was nice to read a book I have not read since childhood. I still remember when my big sister bought me this book, most of my Roald Dahl books I got off PG Tips boxes but Matilda my sister bought from the local bookshop and I remember wanting to read it straight away. My copy is very well read and getting very fragile.
I love the story of Matilda, I always loved the fact that a small child could reek revenge on adults who think they know more than a child just because they are adults and quite frankly most of the time that adult is an idiot. I remember quite clearly as a child not being listened to or ignored because I was a child and I always swore that I would listen to children when they want to tell me something, and as a teacher I always try to do this and hey I have actually learned a lot.
Matilda is a very gifted young girl who is very different from her family and because of this her family especially her parents do not understand or appreciate her. Matilda soon realises life is unfair but to make it bearable she decides to get revenge in a way the adults would not work out it was her.
The main message of this story was to stand up to bullies and when you do you will realise they are cowards. This is a delightful story that I will always love and I highly recommend it to children and adults because it gives you a feel good feeling and makes you realise that against the odds you will triumph. I gave this book a massive 5 out of 5 Dragons.
