Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm, and now being hosted by Meeghan reads.
Hello!
Welcome to my first Top 5 Tuesday of 2025. I have already posted my goals for 2025 but I have other little resolutions for my reading this year that are good for this topic.
- If it isn’t fun it gets the big DNF. I’m really bad at pushing through a book that I’m not enjoying so this year I am making an effort to just give up the bad book.
- Don’t get overwhelmed. Last year I tried to complete too many goals and I found myself reading too many books at once which meant I took forever to just finish one book and it just stressed me out. This year I will have a daily buddy read and my main book and no more.
- Stop hoarding books I don’t even like. I am a terrible book hoarder and I’m quite proud of this fact but I do tend to keep books that I didn’t enjoy reading. I think I’m trying to give the books a second chance and that I will read them again and like them. This year I’m going to go through the books and get rid of the books I didn’t enjoy.
- Keep my bookstagram up to date. I am really good with my blogging but terrible with my bookstagram which I want to change. I love engaging with fellow bookstagrammers so I really need to make more of an effort.
- Read as much Tolkien as possible. Tolkien is my favourite author but I haven’t read any of his books for ages so I plan to remedy this.
Time to start the book related fun!
Happy Reading

Many bloggers seem to struggle with Bookstagram which isn’t that strange to me at all, we are bloggers for a reason 🙂
I did the Top Ten Tuesday version of this prompt, both memes had the same topic today: https://laurieisreading.com/2025/01/14/top-ten-tuesday-bookish-goals-for-2025/

That is very true about book blogging and Bookstagram. I didn’t have enough goals for the Top Ten Tuesday so opted for the Top 5 this week.

Life is definitely too short for reading books that you aren’t enjoying. I think I’ve become much better at DNF ing books that just don’t work for me. Good Luck with your goals.

Thank you. I’ve always been really bad at DNF ing. I just always like to try and give a book a second chance and I’m always disappointed. This year I am determined to be better at DNF ing.

I embrace DNFing a book if you’re not enjoying it. There are some that I have put down fully intending to go back (maybe the subject matter just made me need a break from them for a while). Some, years later I will go back to. But others, I start to realise I never will – those get weeded out and sold/donated.
For the liberating books from your collection, I find it’s easier to do after you’ve read a book. DNF – easy, get rid (unless it’s a temporary DNF). Liked it (or found it average) but know I’ll never reread it or want to lend it out to friends – off it goes, sometimes to a friend who will likely pass it on again. Sometimes I’ll do a scan and pull out books that I’ve changed my mind about rereading or wanting to keep, but mostly, that first decision on what to do with the book (or the series as I won’t get rid of a book in a series until I’ve finished/abandoned the series) once completed is never regretted.
