Hello!

This week I spent a few days in Bath and of course this resulted in book shopping. Bath has some of my favourite bookshops and this always results in a quite a few book purchases.

I bought books from three bookshops.

Mr B’s Emporium

I only bought one book from Mr B’s which was quite restrained. I’ve been wanting a really nice edition of the Hogfather by Terry Pratchett for ages and I really want to re read over Christmas.

Topping and Company Booksellers

I got distracted by the Christmas books again and I bought two new ones. I’m really not sure I will manage to read all these Christmas books over December as the pile is getting higher and higher. However, I do keep reading Christmas books until January 6th so I might manage to finish the pile.

Samantha Shannon and Silvia Moreno-Garcia are two of my favourite authors so I was quite excited to get these pretty hardbacks.

Persephone Books

I only bought two Persephone books and another is a Christmas gift. I was hoping to buy a few more but sadly the shop was full of hyacinths. As pretty as hyacinths are I am also highly allergic and was really struggling to breathe so it was a quick in and out of the shop.

I bought:

Little Boy Lost by Marghanita Laski

William – An Englishman by Cicely Hamilton

My TBR pile is getting bigger and bigger but I’m really hoping I can get loads of reading done this month.

Hello!

I took advantage of the Waterstones Black Friday deals and over the last few days the orders have been arriving. A lot of the books are presents but I did buy a few for myself. So here are the ones which have arrived and are for me.

Every year a get a different edition of The Nutcracker to read and this is the edition I have chosen for this year. My husband wants to read it as well this year because we went to see the ballet which was amazing but he has never read the book.

I have read a few of Miranda Hart’s books and some I have loved and some I have struggled with. I am really hoping this will be one of the ones I love because I love Miranda Hart and how down to earth and real she is.

I still have a few books left to arrive so watch this space for another update!

Hello!

I was rather naughty this week and went book shopping. I did however have a book voucher so I had the perfect excuse. My local independent local bookshop has a brilliant loyalty scheme where if you collect ten stamps you get a £10 voucher. I had a voucher so I thought it was high time to spend it.

I love the poetry books compiled by Allie Esiri so I was really pleased to see there is one for Christmas. I’m looking forward to starting this on the 1st December.

I’ve always been interested by Catherine De’ Medici but don’t know much about her so I was quite excited to see this book by Mary Hollingsworth on the bookshelves. There was only one copy and apparently it had literally only just been put on the shelves that day so I was quite pleased to have gone in just at the right time.

I can’t wait to get reading!

Hello!

This week has been a busy week of book buying. On Tuesday I visited my local bookshop. I am so lucky to have a bookshop so close to my house and it is really nice to support an independent bookshop. I bought three books from Booka Bookshop and filled another loyalty card so I have a £10 voucher to spend on my next visit.

I also had three books from Waterstones two were preordered and one was one that my husband and myself would both like to read.

Booka Bookshop

  • Table for Two by Amor Towles – I recently read A Gentleman in Moscow by Towles and absolutely loved it so I really want to read more of his books.
  • Mary I Queen of Sorrows by Alison Weir – I absolutely love Alison Weir so any of her new books is a must buy.
  • The Voyage Home by Pat Barker – I read the previous books of this series on NetGalley so it is nice to read the third book and own a physical copy.

Waterstones

  • Crimson Lake by Candice Fox – We love the TV series Troppo and now we both really want to read the books.
  • Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros – I am currently reading Fourth Wing and I absolutely loving it so I’m happy to have the next book in the series.
  • Odyssey by Stephen Fry – I really like Stephen Fry’s books and I’m looking forward to reading this.

Hello!

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far. I have had a busy day doing jobs around the house and work on the library continues.

I haven’t done much book buying recently as I am trying to read the books I already have piled up everywhere but I have been reading House of Odysseus by Claire North and realised I hadn’t got the third book in the series yet. So obviously when I went to Worcester Waterstones I had to buy myself a copy. I also bought a couple of books when I visited Belton Estate.

I have the first National Trust On Screen book and really found it interesting so I was very excited to find there was a second one.

I am currently doing a mini course on Art History so when I found this enormous book in the second hand book shop in perfect condition for just £8.50 I knew I had to get it.

Hello!

I am really not doing well on the book buying at the moment. My resolution this year was to not buy too many books and this month I just haven’t been able to stop.

I went to Ironbridge this week and visited the second hand bookshop there and found a book that has been on my wish list for a long time. I have wanted to read this book for ages so now I have no excuse because I own a copy. It is also one of the books on my Classics Club list.

Waterstones Challenge: Lincoln

Hello!

I met up with some friends this week in Lincoln and this meant I could tick off another Waterstones from my Waterstones Challenge. I must admit my challenge has not been going well recently but I’m hoping I can get back into it again properly soon.

This was a lovely store with a very traditional store front. I found the ground floor rather cramped which made browsing rather a trial but the second and third floors were lovely. I especially loved the science fiction and fantasy section which was huge. They also had a dedicated cat section which was brilliant!

Here are the lovely books I purchased or should I say my wonderful husband purchased for me. I must admit social media made me buy The Pumpkin Spice Cafe so hopefully I enjoy it.

I have already started reading Hauntings by Neil Oliver and I am really enjoying it so far.

So there is number 15 off the list. I’m not even thinking about how many I have left.

Hello and welcome to my first ever Stacking the Shelves post.

This week I spent a few days in my favourite place, Bath. This also meant I visited my favourite bookshops and went a little crazy on my book buying.

So here are the books and the bookshops I bought them from.

Persephone Books

I always love how Persephone Books have little descriptions of each book on the bookshelves so you can immediately see what the book is generally about. This also means that I found a lot of books I wanted to buy and read. I actually started to read The Victorian Chaise-Longue as soon as I got back to the hotel so that has already been read and reviewed.

Mr B’s Emporium Bookshop

I really want to see the film of this but I always love to read the book first so hopefully I will get reading this soon. I would have liked to have spent longer in this bookshop but unfortunately there was rather a nasty smell in the shop that rather put me off my book browsing.

Toppings and Company Booksellers of Bath

Now I will be honest I went a little crazy in Toppings and Company. Once I had filled my arms up with books I passed the books to my husband so when I went to the checkout the nice lady on the checkout had a bit of a shock. In fact she thought I had started Christmas shopping so she was even more surprised when I said they were all for me. In all honesty I am so excited to start reading all these lovely books I am not sure what to read first. What do you think I should read next?

So there are all my new books! I am returning to Bath in December so I really must be careful I don’t go book shopping crazy again.

Have you added any new books to your bookshelves recently?

Waterstones Challenge: Cheltenham

Hello!

Today I met up with a friend in Cheltenham and got to tick off number 14 off my Waterstones Challenge. My poor challenge has been rather forgotten about because of covid putting a halt to travelling etc but now I am ready to get ticking off a few more Waterstones stores.

I loved the Cheltenham store, it has three floors and the Science Fiction and Fantasy section was fantastic. I also had a question about a book and the staff were so helpful it was brilliant.

I know you are wondering what books I bought, so here is the list.

Quick Reads

Blind Spot by Paula Hawkins

The Cutting Season by M. W. Craven

Darkness Rising by A. A. Dhand

Witness by Alex Whittle

My husband was overjoyed to see these books because they were only £1 each. He said I could have as many as I wanted but sadly there were only four there. I love the Quick Reads books because I find them great introductions to authors I have never read before.

Books

Witherward by Hannah Mathewson

This is my husbands choice but I hope to read it as well as it looks interesting.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

This was recommended to me by my niece so I thought I would give it a try.

The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury

This was recommended to me by a member of my family but I can’t remember who. Either way I’m looking forward to reading it as I love a sci-fi read.

Gallant by V. E. Schwab

I bought this purely because I have seen a lot of people reading and talking about it on Bookstagram.

So there is my book haul. I can’t wait to get reading these books.

Please drop me a comment if you have read any of these books or if you have a favourite Waterstones store.

Happy Reading.

This and That Thursday

Hello

Over the last few weeks we have been trying to get some adventures in before Christmas. Christmas is always a busy time for us work wise so it is always nice to have a little break before the madness starts.

Lantern Show

We went to a lantern show near us which was absolutely amazing and great fun.

Carol Train

We went with family on a steam train for a Christmas evening which involved carol singing, mulled wine, Christmas decorations and festive fun. It was really nice to spend time with family and I love going on a steam train.

Bath

We usually go to Bath over the New Year but because of work commitments it wasn’t possible this time so we went this week instead. I love Bath and I really missed not going last year. I was really happy to visit Toppings’ new location and to visit the new Persephone Books that has opened. I also visited Mr B’s Emporium which has really changed since we last saw it. It wasn’t all bookshops though, we also went to the Rossetti exhibition at the Holburne Museum and the Fashion Museum in the Assembly Rooms. I really did not want to leave but I have a big list of places I want to visit next.

The rest of our time has been taken up with Christmas decorations and work. Here are a few snaps of the Christmas decorations.
