Hello

I hope everyone is OK during this limbo period. I must admit I do love the period between Christmas and New Year. The limbo period involves left overs, chocolate, reading, wintry walks and just generally chilling.

So here is my last WWW Wednesday of 2020.

What I am Currently Reading

My husband and myself love watching The Expanse so I decided I would read the books in 2021 and have started early. So far I can’t put it down.

What I have Recently Finished Reading

I finished The Nutcracker and have read two of my Christmas presents, Letters from Fairyland and How to See Fairies by Charles Van Sandwyk.

What I Think I will Read Next

I’m starting my buddy read Dissolution on the 1st January, I’m really excited about this book and to be reading it with my best friend. I will probably be reading another book at the same time and it will be one of these books.

Please drop me a comment if you want to chat about any of my books. Please drop me the link to your WWW Wednesday and I will head over for a visit.

Happy Reading!

Happy Wednesday!

I can’t believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve! I have slowed down a little on my reading this week and have only finished the one book, but it was a good book and I have got a load of housework done instead.

What I am Currently Reading

This is my Christmas tradition and I have just started it today. Every year I buy a new edition of The Nutcracker then read it on the last few days of the run up to Christmas. I just love the story and I always enjoy reading a different translator’s take on the story and of course beautiful illustrations.

What I have Recently Finished Reading

Literally finished this, this morning so review will follow shortly. I did really enjoy it though.

What I will Read Next

This will definitely be read on Christmas Eve as it is another Christmas tradition of mine. I had this book for Christmas when I was little and now I read it every Christmas Eve. It doesn’t take long to read but it always makes me think of that magical Christmas morning when I opened this amazing book.

So there is my WWW Wednesday for this week. Please drop me a link with your WWW Wednesday and I will head over for a visit. Also please drop me a comment if you have any Christmas reading traditions.

Jingle Bell Book Tag

Hello!

I haven’t done a festive book tag this year and have seen this one around and thought I would have a go. Please feel free to join in and drop me a comment if you have taken part as I would love to see your answers.

“All I Want For Christmas Is You…” | What book do you want to see under the Christmas Tree?

This is a tricky one because I have a lot of books that I would like to see under the Christmas tree. The one I will choose is The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. I know it is a trilogy but it is what I want under the tree. I love Hobb and I will be honest it has been a long time since I have read any Hobb but the Folio Society edition of the trilogy looks beautiful.

“Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time…” | What book that you have read this year have you enjoyed the most?

I’ve read so many good books this year! My favourite must be The Existence of Amy by Lana Grace Riva, this book really made me think and I thought it was brilliantly well written.

“It’s Beginning to look a lot like Christmas…” | Which book has most festive look to it?

I have read a lot of festive reads so far this December but I think the most festive I have read so far has got to be Christmas at Highclere by The Countess of Carnarvon. This put me in a really festive mood and I just could not put it down.

Elf | What book unleashes your inner child?

Easy! Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. I love this book it makes me think of Christmas and magic and just all sorts of wonderful things. I have recently read the illustrated version and that made me unleash my inner child even more.

The Grinch | Your favorite villain…

My favourite literary villain is definitely Bellatrix Lestrange. Yes, she is evil and completely mad but I think she is great and I always enjoy reading her scenes in the books. I also thinks Helena Bonham Carter portrays her perfectly in the films.

The Holiday | Name your favorite TWO couples…

I know it is probably a really common answer but Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet are my number one favourite couple closely followed by Sam Vimes and Lady Sybil Vimes. Sam and Sybil just work perfectly together and their relationship always makes me giggle.

What book would you like to give as a present to your followers?

Another tricky question, so I think I would like to give my followers a copy of my favourite book/trilogy. The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R Tolkien but would be my gift to you all.

So there are my answers.

Happy reading.

Happy Wednesday!

I have a surprisingly busy day teaching today and it is two of my students last lessons before their exams. I think I am more nervous than they are with all the extra Covid 19 precautions that have to be in place for exams and as I am not allowed to be there on the day I just hope I don’t forgot to tell them anything.

Anyway, here is what my week in books has looked like.

What I am Currently Reading

I am about a third of the way in and thoroughly enjoying it so far.

What I have Recently Finished Reading

Not what I was expecting to be honest. The review is here.

What I think I will Read Next

Yes, it is all Christmas reading now. The only problem is I keep finding more Christmas books I want to add to the list.

So there is my WWW Wednesday. Please drop me a link with your WWW Wednesday and I will head over for a visit.

It has been a few weeks since I have taken part in Top 5 Tuesday, but this week I really liked the topic, so thought I would take part.

Here are my 5 books that I am really pleased to have read this year. Click the pictures for the review.

The Existence of Amy by Lana Grace Riva

This is a type of book I would never have usually considered reading but I am so pleased I did because it was brilliantly written and a big eye opener.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

This was a beautiful retelling of The Iliad and a really refreshing approach.

Half a World Away by Mike Gayle

I discovered Mike Gayle over lockdown and really loved this book, it was beautifully written but I warn you if you read it have a box of tissues at the ready.

Rain Before Rainbows by Smriti Prasadam-Halls and David Litchfield

Another lockdown gem that I got for free on my ipad but have since bought the hardback version as it is so beautiful.

The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary

Another new author for me this year and it was quite simply a laugh a minute.

So there is my list. Please drop me a link with your Top 5 Tuesday and I will head over for a visit.

First Lines Friday: 30/10/2020

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  • Finally… reveal the book!

Happy Friday!

I hope you all have some amazing reads planned for the weekend.

I thought it was time for a First Lines Friday. As usual the answer is below the cats.

These days the origin of the universe is explained by proposing a Big Bang, a single event that instantly brought into being all the matter from which everything and everyone are made.”

Lyra
Pan

The answer is…

Mythos by Stephen Fry

Rediscover the thrills, grandeur, and unabashed fun of the Greek myths—stylishly retold by Stephen Fry. This legendary writer, actor, and comedian breathes new life into beloved tales. From Persephone’s pomegranate seeds to Prometheus’s fire, from devious divine schemes to immortal love affairs, Fry draws out the humour and pathos in each story and reveals its relevance for our own time. Illustrated throughout with classical art inspired by the myths, this gorgeous volume invites you to explore a captivating world, with a brilliant storyteller as your guide.
