Hello!

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. I was back at school today which has meant a very long day but I managed to get some reading done during my lunch break.

What I am Currently Reading

I am half way through this so far and really enjoying it. I do enjoy a Maigret book.

What I have Recently Finished Reading

I started off really enjoying this but towards the end I did find it a bit wearing. The dialect at times could be a difficult and this just made the book feel harder work than it should have done.

What I Think I will Read Next

I’m hoping to read a few more of my short books before the end of September. I must admit setting myself the challenge of only reading books that are 300 pages or less has really made a difference to my TBR pile.

Please drop me a comment with your WWW Wednesday and I will head over for a visit.

Hello!
I hope everyone is having a good week so far. I have been busy teaching and reading but I have some adventures planned for tomorrow that I am looking forward to.

What I am Currently Reading

I am still really enjoying this book but I must admit I want more Perrin as his storyline is my favourite.

What I have Recently Finished Reading

I took a little break from The Dragon Reborn this read because I needed a nice short read. When reading a large book I quite often like a little break with a short read.

What I Think I will Read Next

As usual I am never sure what I will read next but I might choose one of these.

Hello!

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. I’ve been having a good week catching up on jobs around the house and in the garden and doing some teaching. I reward myself with reading which has been very nice.

What I am Currently Reading

Another Murderbot book that I can’t put down.

What I have Recently Finished Reading

I absolutely loved this book. Every book I read by George Eliot I fall more and more in love with her writing.

What I Think I will Read Next

There are so many books that I want to read, I am struggling to choose what to read next every time I finish a book.

Hello!

I hope this post finds all my fellow book Dragons well. My reading has slowed down a little this week because I have been going on some adventures.

What I am Currently Reading

I am really enjoying this book so far. I have just started the third and final story of the book and I am hoping it is as good as the first two.

What I have Recently Finished Reading

Really enjoyed this and will post the review soon.

What I Think I will Read Next

I think my next read will be Rogue Protocol because I am really missing the story. Still leaning towards smaller reads at the moment.

First Lines Friday: 29/07/2022

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  • Finally… reveal the book!

Hello!

Apologies for the break from blogging. I just decided I needed a little break but hopefully I am back to normal blogging routine now. I started a new book today so I thought I would use it for my First Lines Friday post. Answer will be below the cat pictures.

Shipperton Church was a very different-looking building five-and-twenty years ago. To be sure, its substantial stone tower looks at you through its intelligent eye, the clock, with the friendly expression of former days; but in everything else what changes!

and the answer is…

When Scenes of Clerical Life, Eliot’s first work of fiction, first appeared in print anonymously in 1857, critics immediately hailed it for its humorous irony, the truthfulness of its presentation of the lives of ordinary men and women, and its compassionate acceptance of human weakness. The three stories that comprise the volume foreshadow Eliot’s greatest work, and an acquaintance with them is essential to a full understanding of one of the greatest English novelists.

Top Ten Tuesday: Books On My Summer 2022 TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. For more info please check out Jana’s blog.

Hello!

This prompt is perfect for me this week because I have been trying to work out what to read this Summer. I am going away in July and I need to decide what to read because I am planning a nice relaxing time with plenty of chilling by the pool but I have no idea!

So here is what I have come up with.

  1. Scenes of Clerical Life by George Eliot – This is my next book to read off my The Classics Club list. Hopefully I will get to it soon.
  2. The Lady Catherine and The Real Downton Abbey by The Countess of Carnarvon – I have been wanting to read this for ages as I just love The Countess of Carnarvon’s writing.
  3. The Witcher: Blood of Elves by Andrzej Sapkowski – I am determined to start this series this year so the Summer seems like a good time as I might have more time.
  4. The Dragon Reborn by Robert Jordan – Next one that I have to read in the series. I won’t finish the series this year but I am determined to make a good push on the series.
  5. Meet Me in Hawaii by Georgia Toffolo – Another book that has been stuck on my TBR for far too long and it looks like a good book to read whilst on holiday.
  6. A Three Dog Problem by S. J. Bennett – I really enjoyed the first book in the series so I am looking forward to this one.
  7. The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell – I bought this on the day it came out and I have still not read it! I must remedy this.
  8. Star Trek Picard: Rogue Elements by John Jackson Miller – I have been reading the Picard and Discovery books because I really enjoy the TV series but I will be honest I am not so keen on Miller as an author. I find he tends to write 300 words when it can be said in 150 words but hopefully this won’t be the case this time.
  9. Nemesis Games by James S. A. Corey – My next book in The Expanse series. I love this series and each book just seems to get better and better.
  10. Olive and Mabel by Andrew Cotter – Another book I bought on the day it came out. I also bought a copy for my niece and she has read and loved it so I really should get reading.

So there is my list. I doubt I will get around to all of the books (the curse of being a mood reader), but I hope to read as many as possible.

What books do you have on your Summer TBR?

Hello!

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. I have had a much better week reading which has been really nice.

What I am Currently Reading

I am still plodding away with Dombey and Son, some days I read more than others. I started The Greek Myths that Shape the Way we Think yesterday and I am really enjoying it.

What I have Recently Finished Reading

I have finally finished the SPQR by Mary Beard, I have been reading it on and off for about 8 months. The two books about the Queen I read over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend.

What I Think I will Read Next

I think it will most likely be the next Expanse book as I am really enjoying the series at the moment but it always depends on what mood I am in.

Hello!

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. I am looking forward to my day off tomorrow and we will hopefully be going out for the day.

What I am Currently Reading

Memoirs of a Geisha I started reading on my phone because I found myself with an hour wait between jobs at work and no book so it was an emergency book for but so far I am enjoying it. Dombey and Son I started today and I am absolutely loving it.

What I have Recently Finished Reading

Really enjoyed these two reads. Dogs in Medieval Manuscripts has some beautiful pictures in it.

What I Think I will Read Next

I really need to get cracking on my series challenge as I have fallen behind. My aim this year was to finish some of my book series so I need to get moving.
