Hello!

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. I have had a much better week reading which has been really nice.

What I am Currently Reading

I am still plodding away with Dombey and Son, some days I read more than others. I started The Greek Myths that Shape the Way we Think yesterday and I am really enjoying it.

What I have Recently Finished Reading

I have finally finished the SPQR by Mary Beard, I have been reading it on and off for about 8 months. The two books about the Queen I read over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend.

What I Think I will Read Next

I think it will most likely be the next Expanse book as I am really enjoying the series at the moment but it always depends on what mood I am in.

Please drop me a comment with your WWW Wednesday and I will head over for a visit.

Goodreads Monday: 6/06/2022

Goodreads Monday is now hosted by Budget Tales Book Club.  All you have to do is show off a book from your TBR that you’re looking forward to reading.

Hello!

I hope everyone has had a good start to the week so far. My chosen book this week is by another favourite author of mine.

In 1844, Alexandre Dumas published The Three Musketeers, a novel so famous and still so popular today that it scarcely needs introduction. Shortly thereafter he wrote a sequel, Twenty Years After. Later, toward the end of his career, Dumas wrote The Red Sphinx, another direct sequel to The Three Musketeers that begins a mere twenty days afterward. Picking up right where the The Three Musketeers left off, The Red Sphinx continues the stories of Cardinal Richelieu, Queen Anne, and King Louis XIII—and introduces a charming new hero, the Comte de Moret, a real historical figure from the period. Dumas wrote seventy-five chapters of The Red Sphinx, but never quite finished it and the novel languished for almost a century. While Dumas never completed the book, he had earlier written a separate novella, The Dove, that recounts the final adventures of Moret and Cardinal Richelieu. Now for the first time in one cohesive narrative, The Red Sphinx and The Dove make a complete and satisfying storyline—a rip-roaring novel of historical adventure, heretofore unknown to English-language readers, by the great Alexandre Dumas, king of the swashbucklers.

Spell the Month in Books – June 2022

Reviews From the Stacks

Hello!

I have decided to take part in Spell the Month in Books for the first time which I have also done on my Bookstagram.

My chosen theme for my stack are all books off my TBR book trolley. Thankfully, I had a book on there that begins with U.

Here are the books!

J – Jeeves and the Yule-Tide Spirit by P.G. Wodehouse

U – Under the Greenwood Tree by Thomas Hardy

N – No Regrets by Tabitha Webb

E – Elektra by Jennifer Saint

I’m looking forward to reading all these books this year.

Please drop me a comment if you want to talk about books!

  • What do you think you will read next?

Hello!

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. I am looking forward to my day off tomorrow and we will hopefully be going out for the day.

What I am Currently Reading

Memoirs of a Geisha I started reading on my phone because I found myself with an hour wait between jobs at work and no book so it was an emergency book for but so far I am enjoying it. Dombey and Son I started today and I am absolutely loving it.

What I have Recently Finished Reading

Really enjoyed these two reads. Dogs in Medieval Manuscripts has some beautiful pictures in it.

What I Think I will Read Next

I really need to get cracking on my series challenge as I have fallen behind. My aim this year was to finish some of my book series so I need to get moving.

Top 5 Tuesday: Places to Read

Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm, and now being hosted by Meeghan reads.

Hello!

I’m really enjoying the recent topics on Top 5 Tuesday, so I thought I would take part again this week. I have quite a few places where I love to read so here goes.

  1. Sofa – I really like to read in the morning if I have time and this always happens in the lounge on the sofa. Usually cuddled in a blanket if it is cold.
  2. Bed – I always read at night before I go to bed even if I only manage a few pages before I fall asleep.
  3. AGA – This is a strange one. In the winter one of my favourite places to read is leaning on the simmering plate of the AGA. The simmering plate obviously has the lid on and a cloth pad on otherwise I would burn myself.
  4. Car – During term time I teach at a school twice a week and the one day I have an hour and half lunch break and this is where I escape to my car and curl up on the backseat and read a book. It isn’t the most comfortable but it is quiet and I usually get at least an hour of reading in.
  5. Plane – If we go on holiday on a plane I love reading whilst flying. When we went to Hawaii in 2019 I read three books just on the flight there, it was great and the flight went by really quickly.

Where are your favourite places to read?

Hello!

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. I have had a very busy day teaching but I did have an hour and a half lunch break which I put to good use by reading my book.

What I am Currently Reading

I started this last night and I can’t put it down. It has had me in fits of laughter.

What I have Recently Finished Reading

The reviews for these will be out soon. I really enjoyed both but I did find the Sansom a little slow in the middle.

What I Think I will Read Next

I really have no idea what to read next. I’m really struggling to work out what book to read each time I have to choose. I think I might choose a classic next but that could easily change depending on what mood I’m in.

Top 5 Tuesday: Drinks for Reading

Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm, and now being hosted by Meeghan reads.

Hello!

I the last Top 5 Tuesday so much I thought I would take part again this week.

This one is a little tricky for me because I mainly live on Tea but I do drink other things sometimes.

  1. Tea – My go to tea is Twinnings English Breakfast tea with goats milk (I can’t have cows milk). I love reading a book with a massive mug of tea.
  2. Orange squash – I do like an orange squash when I’m not in the mood for water or a hot drink.
  3. Raspberry Iced Tea – This is my favourite go to drink after a long walk and what is the best thing after a long walk? A really good book to read.
  4. Hot chocolate – This is my treat drink whilst reading. A couple of years ago my wonderful husband bought me a velvertiser by Hotel Chocolat for my birthday and I love it. A perfect accompaniment to a Christmas book in front of a nice fire.
  5. Water – Finally, there is water. I am always striving to drink more water but I really struggle sometimes because when it is cold I just want tea.

What are your favourite reading drinks?

  • What do you think you will read next?

Hello!

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. Today was my first day back at school teaching piano, flute and ukulele after the Easter holidays and it was bit of a shock to the system. I did manage some reading during my lunch break which was good because I haven’t been doing much recently sadly.

What I am Currently Reading

This has been a bit slow for me but thankfully it has started to pick up because I was getting a little bit bored in the middle.

What I have Recently Finished Reading

Really enjoyed this quick read and was just what I needed this week. Sometimes it is good to just read a short book.

What I Think I will Read Next

I’ve been thinking a lot about what I will read next and I honestly have no idea. I think I want a standalone and an easy read. However, this all might change tomorrow as I am a mood reader.

Top 5 Tuesday: Snacks for Reading

Top 5 Tuesday was created by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm, and now being hosted by Meeghan reads.

Hello!

I will be honest I only really have one reading snack and it’s really a drink not a snack but I do occasionally treat myself to a snack or two whilst reading.

Anyway, here are the snacks/drinks

  1. Tea – I love tea, when I wake up in the morning I’m thinking about tea. I would happily chain drink tea and nothing beats curling up with a book and a huge mug of tea.
  2. Cake – On the rare occasion that I have been baking I will also happily curl up with book, a mug of and a huge slice of cake.
  3. Chocolate – Who doesn’t love a piece of chocolate when reading? Obviously, you have to make sure the chocolate doesn’t melt because you don’t want melted chocolate on your book.
  4. Hot chocolate – A couple of years ago my wonderful husband bought me a velvertiser by Hotel Chocolat for my birthday and I love it. A perfect accompaniment to a Christmas book in front of a nice fire.
  5. Porridge – A random one but I used to read when I was eating breakfast and my favourite breakfast is porridge.

What are your favourite reading snacks?
