Goodreads Monday is hosted by Lauren’s Page Turners.  All you have to do is show off a book from your TBR that you’re looking forward to reading.

Hello!

Happy Monday! I hope everyone has had a good start to the week. I have caught up on loads of admin and annoying things that take up time and I’ve fitted in some dissertation writing.

I thought I would feature another book on my ever increasing TBR list.

This weeks choice is nonfiction book.

An engrossing biography of the longest-reigning female pharaoh in Ancient Egypt and the story of her audacious rise to power in a man’s world.

Hatshepsut, the daughter of a general who took Egypt’s throne without status as a king’s son and a mother with ties to the previous dynasty, was born into a privileged position of the royal household. Married to her brother, she was expected to bear the sons who would legitimize the reign of her father’s family. Her failure to produce a male heir was ultimately the twist of fate that paved the way for her inconceivable rule as a cross-dressing king. At just twenty, Hatshepsut ascended to the rank of king in an elaborate coronation ceremony that set the tone for her spectacular twenty-two year reign as co-regent with Thutmose III, the infant king whose mother Hatshepsut out-maneuvered for a seat on the throne. Hatshepsut was a master strategist, cloaking her political power plays with the veil of piety and sexual expression. Just as women today face obstacles from a society that equates authority with masculinity, Hatshepsut had to shrewdly operate the levers of a patriarchal system to emerge as Egypt’s second female pharaoh.

Hatshepsut had successfully negotiated a path from the royal nursery to the very pinnacle of authority, and her reign saw one of Ancient Egypt’s most prolific building periods. Scholars have long speculated as to why her images were destroyed within a few decades of her death, all but erasing evidence of her rule. Constructing a rich narrative history using the artifacts that remain, noted Egyptologist Kara Cooney offers a remarkable interpretation of how Hatshepsut rapidly but methodically consolidated power—and why she fell from public favor just as quickly. The Woman Who Would Be King traces the unconventional life of an almost-forgotten pharaoh and explores our complicated reactions to women
in power.

I love anything to do with Ancient Egypt so I am really looking forward to read this.

Please drop me a comment if you have a Goodreads Monday post and I will head over for a visit. If you have read this book please let me know your thoughts.

Happy Reading.

Goodreads Monday is hosted by Lauren’s Page Turners.  All you have to do is show off a book from your TBR that you’re looking forward to reading.

Hello!

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. My TBR is huge and ever growing so trying to choose one book off it to feature for this post is always quite tricky.

So my choice is…

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad’Dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind’s most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what it undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction.

I love science fiction and this has been on my TBR for a very long time. I remember my sister making me watch the film and going out to buy the book the very next day but then I never got around to reading it for some reason. This is something I want to remedy soon, hopefully this year but I will have to find my copy first as I’m not sure whether it is at my parents house or in a box somewhere in my own.

So there is my Goodreads Monday! Please drop me a comment with your Goodreads Monday post and I will head over for a visit.

Happy Reading!

Hello!

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. I seem to have been quite busy this week so far which has has sadly meant less reading.

What I am Currently Reading

Still reading this and still enjoying it. I just wish I had more time to read it.

What I Have Recently Finished Reading

I read this whilst my husband was watching the Grand Prix and I think this will be a new tradition for me. Reading a Maigret book whilst the Grand Prix is on should help my Goodreads Challenge. Review will follow shortly.

What I Think I will Read Next

As usual I’m never sure what I will read next but maybe it will be one of these.

Hello!

I hope this post finds you all well. I will be honest this week hasn’t been great on the reading front due to studying but I have managed to read one small book which I am happy about.

What I am Currently Reading

About a quarter of the way though with this now and thoroughly enjoying it. Did take a little break because I got distracted with another book.

What I have Recently Finished Reading

Throughly enjoyed this, it was funny and informative and I could have easily read this in one sitting but managed to savour it over two days instead of binge reading it. Review will follow shortly.

What I Think I will Read Next

As usual I can never be sure what I will read next. It depends on what mood I am in but I am preferring larger books at the moment for some reason.

So there is my latest WWW Wednesday. Please drop me a comment with your WWW Wednesday and I will head over for a visit or if you have read any of the books I have mentioned please share your thoughts. I love a good chat about books.

Happy Reading.

Goodreads Monday is hosted by Lauren’s Page Turners.  All you have to do is show off a book from your TBR that you’re looking forward to reading.

Hello!

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a good weekend. I have started the week by writing the first 200 words of my dissertation and reading more articles. I’ve also enjoyed some fun reading as well.

So I have had a good look through my enormous TBR list on Goodreads and discovered a book I had completely forgotten about. Hopefully, now I have remembered it, I will get around to reading it soon.

It is 1866, and young Walter Moody has come to make his fortune upon the New Zealand goldfields. On the stormy night of his arrival, he stumbles across a tense gathering of twelve local men who have met in secret to discuss a series of unexplained events: A wealthy man has vanished, a prostitute has tried to end her life, and an enormous fortune has been discovered in the home of a luckless drunk. Moody is soon drawn into the mystery: a network of fates and fortunes that is as complex and exquisitely ornate as the night sky. Richly evoking a mid-nineteenth-century world of shipping, banking, and gold rush boom and bust, The Luminaries is a brilliantly constructed, fiendishly clever ghost story and a gripping page-turner.

This book sounds so interesting and I can’t wait to read it. My husband has read it and he really enjoyed it so hopefully I will as well.

Please drop me a comment if you have read The Luminaries or have taken part in Goodreads Monday.

Happy Monday!

I hope you have all had a good start to the week.

I thought I would take part in Goodreads Monday this week. The answer is below the cats. Good luck!

“Andrew looked at the coffin and tried to remember who was inside it. It was a man, he was sure of that. But, horrifically, the name escaped him. He thought he’d narrowed it down to either John or James, but Jake had just made a late bid for consideration. It was inevitable, he supposed, that this had happened. He’d been to so many of these funerals it was bound to at some point but that didn’t stop him feeling an angry stab of self-loathing.”

Get Guessing!

and the answer is…

Sometimes you have to risk everything to find your something…

Andrew works with death for a living. Searching for people’s next of kin and attending the funerals if they don’t have anyone, he’s desperate to avoid the same fate for himself. Which is fine, because he has the perfect wife and 2.4 children waiting at home for him after a long day. At least, that’s what he’s told people.

The truth is, his life isn’t exactly as people think and the little white lie he once told is about to catch up with him.

Because in all Andrew’s efforts to fit in, he’s forgotten one important thing: how to really live. And maybe, it’s about time for him to start.

Please drop me a comment with your Goodreads Monday and will go over for a visit.

Happy Wednesday!

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. I have been thoroughly getting into my research for my dissertation and I have finally started to get a plan worked out. I have also been trying to control our overgrown garden with varied results.

What I am Currently Reading

I started this yesterday and I am already nearly finished it. I do love the Maigret books. We have been watching the Maigret series with Rowan Atkinson playing Maigret this week, I just wish there were more episodes than four.

What I Have Recently Finished Reading

This is my favourite book of 2021 so far! Click the photo for the review.

What I Think I will Read Next

As usual no clue what I will read next, it all depends on my mood.
