Top Ten Tuesday: Books for My Younger Self

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. For more info please check out Jana’s blog.

Hello!

I love this weeks prompt as I have a huge list of books that I would have loved to have read as a child.

Flowers in the Attic by V. C. Andrews

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine

Cheaper by the Dozen by Frank B. Gilbreth Jr, Ernestine Carey

Mr Popper’s Penguins by Richard Atwater

Lord of the Flies by William Golding

Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield

Pollyanna by Eleanor H. Porter

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith

The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald

There is the list of some the books I wish I had read as a child but I plan to read them as an adult. Please drop me a comment with your Top Ten Tuesday and I will head over for a visit.

  1. I actually would have loved to read the Percy Jackson series when I was younger. Middle grade doesn’t work well for me now so I’m not enjoying Rick Riordan as much as I could have if I read them when I was younger. I’m still enjoying them though, thankfully!

    1. I’ve read the Percy Jackson series a few times as an adult. I’m finding as I’m getting older I enjoy reading children’s books more which is very strange.

  2. Would you really have liked to have read ‘Lord of the Flies’ as a kid? Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s an amazing book but I’m glad I waiting until I was older… I read ‘Mr. Popper’s Penguins’ and ‘Ella Enchanted’ when I was young but unfortunately I don’t remember them much at all. I remember liking ‘Mr. Popper’s Penguins,’ but I think I found ‘Ella Enchanted’ disappointing for some reason. :/

    1. Yea I would have happily read it as a child I was reading Dickens and Austen from the age of 8 and I read Animal Farm when I was quite young. I started reading children’s books more as an adult. I’ve read 101 Dalmatians so many times as an adult I just love it. I have Ella Enchanted and Mr Popper’s Penguins on my TBR pile currently.

    1. No I didn’t even own copies of them as a youngster sadly. I read Matilda again last year, it will always be one of my favourites. I also remember you collecting Roald Dahl books for me off PG Tips, I still have them all.
